Recent Work

All children have an innate and enormous capacity to be expressive and creative in art. In the act of noticing, selecting, interpreting and forming ideas the child reflects what he thinks and feels about the world and unifies it into an expression of the self. This process is uplifting and builds a strong and confident sense of self. Given the opportunity, this has a powerful knock-on effect in the way children learn and are motivated in other areas of the curriculum.

Primary teachers who understand these processes in young children will recognise the need for such opportunities to be created in the classroom.

"The way creativity may best be realised is for the child to be exposed through all of his senses to the qualities of life.Through direct experiences with tactile, visual and audio phenomena the child's imagination and perceptual powers are developed"     Victor Lowenfield, 'The Nature of Creative Activity'.
